David is the global leader of our public sector, social sector, and healthcare practice. In more than 25 years with McKinsey, he has advised clients on performance transformations in a range of industries, including banking, transport, coordination, mining, utilities, oil, and gas, as well as serving a wide array of public- and social-sector organizations.
David is deeply committed to social and economic transformation and social inclusion. He works with senior government leaders and ministries, social-sector organizations, and private-sector champions to shape and implement breakthrough solutions to complex problems. David helps clients mobilize their people’s energy to deliver great outcomes in economic- and country-development strategies, public-finance management and taxation, industrial growth, education, infrastructure, social development, and public health—including country-wide responses to HIV/AIDS, Ebola, and polio.
David began his consultancy career with the firm in 1995 as the first South African to join McKinsey’s newly opened Johannesburg office, which he went on to lead from 2010 to 2014. He subsequently became the leader of the Public and Social Sector Practices in Africa, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East before assuming his global leadership role in 2016.
David has received public recognition and multiple awards for his business leadership and contributions to the communities in which he has lived and worked. In 2006, Consulting magazine ranked him as one of the top 25 management consultants globally.
