A partner in the New York office, Tony brings over 40 years of experience as a leader of large public and nonprofit organizations to advising the chief executives of state and local governments, public authorities, healthcare delivery systems, higher education enterprises, and real estate owners and developers.
Tony works primarily with the Social Sector, Healthcare, & Public Sector Entities Practice at McKinsey but is also active in our real estate work and Travel, Logistics, & Infrastructure Practice. He has worked with leaders of major urban centers across the nation and the world as well as some of the largest universities, transportation systems, real estate owners, and medical centers in the US.
Before joining McKinsey, Tony served as the First Deputy Mayor of New York City, chief operating officer for its government of 350,000 staff and $100 billion annual budget, managing over three dozen agencies. He also headed the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the nation’s oldest public authority, and was responsible for the region’s five airports, four seaports, five interstate bridges and tunnels, three bus terminals, interstate mass transit system, and the World Trade Center. In healthcare, Tony served as Vice Dean and Chief of Staff of NYU Langone Health, the hospitals and medical school of New York University, as well as one of the early leaders of Healthfirst, now the largest provider-owned nonprofit health insurer in the country. He also served as the NYC Commissioner of Finance and Deputy Chancellor of the New York City Board of Education, the largest public education system in the nation.
In addition to his work with McKinsey, Tony teaches in the graduate program at Princeton University, serves as the Vice Chair of the Regional Plan Association, and is a member of the Second District Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Bank and the Board of the United Hospital Fund.
