Björn is coleader of our global insurance operations and technology activities and a core member of the McKinsey Digital leadership team. He is also leader of our public sector in Germany and Austria. He has advised clients across Europe and beyond for almost 20 years with a focus on insurance, medtech, and the public sector. He co-founded Ignite (previously known as Digital 20/20), which provides data-driven insights for digital, analytics, and technology transformations. Björn is also the European digital and analytics recruiting lead for McKinsey. 

Examples of Björn’s recent projects include the following:

  • supporting multiple insurance organizations on designing and implementing comprehensive digital transformations
  • designing and implementing global operations and technology next-generation operating models for leading multinational companies
  • supporting multiple multinational insurance companies in multiyear core-system replacements
  • performing multiple international expert roles in the field of operations and technology, core technology performance management, operations, and technology benchmarking

Before joining McKinsey, Björn received a diploma degree in mathematics and computer science from the Albert-Ludwig-University in Freiburg. Björn took a leave of absence to write his doctoral thesis on "drivers and consequences of business process standardization" at the University of Bamberg. Björn is fluent in German, English, and French.
